A view of the gorge where the second ambush took place, a day's march from the Alpine pass. Celtic warriors lined the heights on either side, throwing boulders and logs and then charging down amidst Hannibal's men. Other Celtic forces attacked from both ends of the gorge to seal the Carthaginian troops within.

Today a paved road has replaced the path trod by Hannibal's column inside the gorge; nevertheless the site still resonates with danger.
